Sixth Annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon
United for D.C. hosted another successful Kick-off Luncheon, raising over $42,000 for its programs. The Luncheon took place on March 25, 2008 at the Presidential Ballroom of the Capitol Hilton in Downtown D.C. Over 300 people attended the annual event, including D.C. United's co-managing partners Victor MacFarlane and Will Chang. The event was presented by United Bank, and supported by Arent Fox and Ballard, Spahr Andrews and Ingersoll, LLP and featured MLS Commissioner, Don Garber, as the keynote speaker. United President and CEO Kevin Payne also spoke, while head coach Tom Soehn introduced players from the 2008 D.C. United squad. The event was emcee-ed by Russ Thaler and Tony Limarzi, long-time United broadcasters. Read full release »
Fifth Annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon
On Tuesday, April 10, 2007, United for D.C. hosted the Fifth Annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon at the Presidential Ballroom of the Capitol Hilton in Downtown D.C. Over 300 people attended the annual event, and once again, the event sold out in advance. Over $30,000 was raised for the charity at the event that was presented by United Bank, and supported by Arent Fox, Gragg and Associates and the DC Sports and Entertainment Commission, featured D.C. United's co-managing partners Victor MacFarlane and Will Chang. United President and CEO Kevin Payne also spoke, while head coach Tom Soehn introduced players from the 2007 D.C. United squad. The event was emcee-ed by Dave Johnson, United's long-time play-by-play television announcer.
Fourth Annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon
On Tuesday, March 28, 2006, United for D.C. hosted the Fourth Annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon, presented by Blue Eagle Industries and the DC Sports & Entertainment Commission, at the Marriott at Metro Center in Washington, D.C. Supporting sponsors included Arent Fox, ARAMARK Sports & Entertainment, East West Mortgage, Regional Title and Merrill Lynch.
U.S. Men's National Team Coach and former D.C. United Head Coach Bruce Arena was the keynote speaker, discussing the first decade of Major League Soccer and foreshadowing the upcoming World Cup. Comcast SportsNet broadcaster Russ Thaler and D.C. United radio commentator Tony Limarzi served as emcees for the event.
Third Annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon
On Tuesday, March 29, 2005, United for D.C. hosted the Third Annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon, presented by the DC Sports & Entertainment Commission, at the Marriott at Metro Center in Washington, D.C. Supporting sponsors included Arent Fox, Blue Eagle Industries, GMAC Commercial Holding Capital Markets and Regional Title. The 2005 D.C. United team was introduced, and Comcast SportsNet broadcaster Russ Thaler and the "Voice of D.C. United" Dave Johnson co-emceed. Over $35,000 was raised for United for D.C. at the event; DCSEC President, Allen Lew, discussed how RFK Stadium would be able to handle both baseball and soccer for the first time.
Second Annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon
On Tuesday, March 30th, 2004, United for D.C. hosted the Second Annual First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon at Top of the Town in Arlington, VA. Over 180 people attended the second-time event, and for the second year in a row, the event sold out in advance. Over $20,000 was raised for the charity at an event at which D.C. United President & CEO (and United for D.C. Board Member) Kevin Payne spoke about the team's plans for a soccer stadium in Washington, D.C. and D.C. United first-year Head Coach Peter Nowak talked about the team's season opening game that following Saturday, April 3rd, and the overall 2004 Major League Soccer season. Comcast SportsNet broadcaster Russ Thaler served as emcee for the second straight year.
Inaugural First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon
On April 8th, 2003, United for D.C. hosted the Inaugural First XI Charity Kick-off Luncheon at the Key Bridge Marriott in Arlington, VA. Over 140 fans and supporters attended the first-time event, raising over $20,000 for United for D.C. MLS Commissioner Don Garber and D.C. United Head Coach Ray Hudson served as keynote speakers, with Garber speaking on the state of the MLS as it opens its eighth season while Hudson used the opportunity to "unofficially" unveil his starting line-up for the weekend's season opener against Kansas City. Comcast SportsNet broadcaster Russ Thaler served as emcee.
