So it's been a long road trip and I'm ready to come home. As we all know, the end to our road trips has come. In honor of this glorious and monumental day I am thinking that most fans want to have a little insight on the places we go to. Amongst other things, I will enlighten you on the travels of MLS players and other thoughts that are running through my head. Enjoy!!

I was really productive yesterday. I talked to a guy named Ron Johnson. Ron Johnson sets up two Curious George monkeys outside Kona Grill here in Kansas City and collects money for himself. He was married to Kathy for 28 years and had one daughter named Cathena who now works for UPS. Kathy passed away years back and the "misery" that Ron lives in now was fully worth the incredible years he spent with his wife. He said his favorite memories were the day trips they used to take when they got in the car and they just drove. So if you're wondering what to do with your significant other, take a Ron Johnson memorial day trip out of the bay and just go where the road takes you. If you don't have a significant other, then call your best friend. If you don't have a best friend, join facebook and I'll be your friend. There you can join hundreds of people who are gladly associated with me. You can laugh and make fun of Joe Cannon all day long with your new internet friends. A true bonding moment many of my teammates have experienced that seems to give them endless amounts of pleasure.

"a smile and a friendly word can go a long way"

"live fast, love hard and die young"

Ron Johnson, our long conversation will never be forgotten. Thank you for putting it all in perspective.

"Joe, it's not your fault who you father is, but it's your fault who your father in law is" (translation: marry rich)

"Avoid the nine to five like the plague"

Joe Cannon, my dad has always given me some great advice. Thanks dad, I love you.

Do you ever listen to oldies and understand why today is so complicated? "Hold me, thrill me, kiss me" by Mel Carter has been replaced by "Me so horny" by Two Live Crew. I mean seriously, just call me old fashioned. haha.

Top 3 lines girls say when they hear you play soccer:

  • "So what else do you do??"
  • "When I was in college, I spent a semester in Spain and I went to a soccer game, it was sooooooooooo fun!"
  • "Do you know David Beckham?"
Top 3 lines I say when I want girls to know I play soccer.
  • "Sorry I'm not drinking cuz I have practice tomorrow"
  • "I get so bored with all the free time I have"
  • "Do you know who David Beckham is?"

Subtlety is the key.

Worst line that's ever worked...I play with the LA Galaxy and I just moved here. Want to be my friend??

So we are back from KC and I must say that I was thoroughly depressed for at least a good 36 hours..maybe more.

What can one say? Disappointment does not even begin to describe it.

Fan Appreciation Night is coming and I really wonder what else the Quakes can do besides win that will really let the fans know we appreciate them.

Top 3 fan groups who are mean to Joe Cannon (2008): Los Angeles, Colorado, and New York

I've played for two of the three above teams. Go figure. It just goes to show that you really can't trust anybody else but your own fans.

I just want to let our fans know that after watching the Colorado Chivas game, I am amazed that our team has never gotten one penalty kick this year. Perhaps the referee will comply for Fan Appreciation Night on Saturday.

On another side note, the Earthquakes are 0-2-1 since Santa Clara University decided to lengthen the field by 3 yards. What a difference 9 feet will make huh??

Did everyone register to vote? I hope so. It's an important election year and next blog I will write my endorsement.

People always talk about how great it is that we get to go places and travel. To be honest, you have a ton of free time but when your job is on the line, sightseeing is very rare. For all east coast games and Houston, we leave 2 days before the game. Every other road trip we leave the day before the game. Players tend to do a lot of television watching, internet, and eating out. Traveling is not as cool as you think, especially when going by commercial airlines and waiting in line all the time. It really doesn't get to you until your last leg on a week long road trip like the one we just finished with.

Although then I think about Ron Johnson in Kansas City and wonder what I really have to complain about.

"there's a lot of people in this world who would love to have your problems"

Thanks dad.
