8TH ANNUAL COPA LA YOUTH SOCCER TOURNAMENT
DRAWS MORE THAN 20,000 PLAYERS AND SPECTATORS
Eleven Boys Division and Two Girls Division Champions Crowned From More Than 165 Youth Teams at Copa LA 2009 at San Bernardino Soccer Complex
The eighth annual Copa LA Youth Soccer Tournament drew more than 20,000 players and spectators over three days during the Memorial Day weekend at the San Bernardino Soccer Complex. The Copa LA tournament, which ran from May 23 through May 25, crowned champions in eleven boys divisions and two girls divisions on Monday.
Copa LA 2009 featured 166 of the top youth soccer teams in the region, many from local unaffiliated Hispanic leagues, who displayed their talents at this highly competitive tournament throughout the weekend. More than 100 different youth soccer organizations were represented at the tournament with youth teams ranging from U-9 to U-19 on the Boys side and two U-19 groups on the Girls side.
The tournament also provided a unique opportunity for players to be seen by Galaxy coaches and scouts, who identified a number of players for tryouts with the LA Galaxy Youth Academy.
While most of the teams who participated in the tournament were from all over Southern California, this year's Copa LA drew teams from as far away as Baja, Mexico (Baja Ensenada and Cetys Universidad) and Northern California (Petaluma, Sacramento and Oakland).
