Dear players and parents,

Welcome to 2005 D.C. United Youth Development Program. After the success of the 2004 program in my first year as Director of Youth Development, I am looking forward to another season that consists of high quality, competitive training sessions and games. Practices will once again commence in May and will vary among each age group. The actual season kicks off in June and runs until the first and second week of August, with the possibility for advancement to the Super Y-League National Finals in Orlando, Florida in November. The finals for the U19 age group will once again be held in August in order to avoid conflict with College/High School commitments. Last year we had three teams advance to the finals. Both the U14 Boys and Girls teams represented in Orlando, and the U19 Boys advanced to the finals in Chicago in August!

All D.C. United teams will compete in United Soccer League’s Super Y-League Program again this year. This is one of the most competitive programs in the country. More information can be found by going on their website www.superyleague.com. D.C. United will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Division again this year, and throughout the summer, we will be looking to set up some friendly scrimmages against other Major League Soccer youth teams. We are also setting up games with both domestic and international teams throughout the summer that will help give the players more of a challenge and exposure.

We are also very excited to announce a reduction in the cost of this year’s program, which will be $650.00. The coaches will be making their selection of players throughout the various tryouts and once selected for the team, the player/parents will be notified and payment will be due. Please do not be discouraged if not chosen for the team this year. Each year there is more competition for spots on the rosters. I encourage you to continue to play and work hard, while always enjoying the game. It is very important that the players make themselves available for as many tryout sessions possible in order for the coaches to have the best opportunities to recognize each player’s abilities. This is a unique opportunity for the players to have maximum exposure and recognition in the Super-Y ODP program as well as by top college coaches.

I am also pleased to announce a brilliant staff of coaches for this year:

The SYL ODP Select Teams finished their weekend series with a 1-2-1 record in four closely fought matches.
