Merchandising Intern

This position will work closely in both the D.C. United team store and grassroots merchandising events. Responsibilities may include:

  • organization & stocking of inventory within the team store
  • scheduling game day merchandising staff
  • facilitation of grassroots events

As this is one of the few paid D.C. United internships, candidates should have a full-time commitment and a flexible schedule, as many games and events fall on weekends.

Video Production Intern - apply now »

D.C. United is seeking an individual to assist with all aspects of the club's video and multimedia production. Candidates must possess knowledge and skill in the following::

  • Operating and handling DV camera equipment
  • Final Cut Pro
  • MAC savvy
  • FTP software
  • KKnowledge of Video Compression, Live Type, Motion Graphics a plus
  • Knowledge of Major League Soccer a plus

The internship places large responsibility upon the individual, allowing him or her to handle numerous aspects of the club's behind-the-scenes video pieces, 'Access United.' Under the direction of the Communications Department, the individual will also have a hand in generating and executing ideas.

The individual will also have the opportunity to shoot games from the sideline, interview players in the locker room and cover players outside of their soccer lives.

Marketing Intern

  • Sponsorship: - This position will work closely on relationships involving D.C. United's Official Sponsors. Responsibilities may include: organization of sponsored elements, facilitation of game day programs and half-time events, and production of event & game summaries. Candidates should have a full time commitment, and a flexible schedule as many events fall on weekends.
  • Grassroots: - This internship will include a chance to experience the different facets of grassroots marketing for a professional soccer team. Duties include general fulfillment of the Youth Fan Club & Coaches Association programs, assistance with merchandising, and planning, staffing, and attending mobile marketing events and mascot appearances throughout the community. Weekend availability is preferred but hours will be determined on an individual basis with some flexibility.
  • Promotions: - This position will work closely with the Marketing Coordinator on a variety of promotional activities with a special focus on event management. Responsibilities may include assistance in advertising and promotions development, work with the team's media partnerships, and coordination of pre-game Soccer Celebration interactive area.
  • Account Manager: - This position works closely with the Graphic Designer and Marketing Coordinator to manage all in-house graphic projects. Responsibilities include managing design projects throughout the office, coordinating with the Graphic Designer on project details and scope of project, and gathering project specifics in order to keep workflow up to speed. Successful candidates are motivated and take initiative to gain needed materials/specifics. Must be detail oriented and organized. Love of soccer a plus.

    Operations Intern
    • Team Operations/Logistics - Intern will be responsible for day-to-day duties revolving around the team, RFK Stadium, and events throughout the D.C. metropolitan area. Specific tasks will include the facilitating of various team activities such as training sessions, logistical preparation and management of RFK stadium for all home games, storage movement, office maintenance, and various event management duties. The intern will work directly with the D.C. United Operations Managers. Candidates should have strong organizational skills and be very detail oriented. Candidates should also be able to perform physical labor duties on a daily basis.
    • Match Production - Intern will be responsible for all in-house game day production preparation including creating the PA script and timelines for all D.C. United home games. Responsibilities also include coordinating meetings for all departments involved with game day activities. The intern will work directly with the D.C. United Operations Managers, D.C. United game day producer, production crew, and both English and Spanish PA announcers. Candidates should have strong organizational skills and be very detail oriented.
    • Volunteer/Hospitality Program - Intern will be responsible for assisting with the D.C. United volunteer program made up of over 60 volunteers. Duties include interviewing new applicants, scheduling duties for all home games, managing the incentive program, and facilitating the needs of all volunteers. The intern will also be responsible for assisting with hospitality scheduling for all home games. Various other duties include managing the credential program. The intern will work directly with the D.C. United Operations Managers and the D.C. United Volunteer & Hospitality Coordinator. Candidates should have strong organizational skills and be very detail oriented. Prior experience with customer service and people management is recommended.

    Ticket Services Coordinator Intern

    D.C. United is looking for an experienced ticketing person to assist in all issues related to ticket operations for the team. This person will serve both as an assistant to the Box Office Manager as well as a Coordinator with the Customer Service department on ticketing related matters. A knowledge of the TicketMaster / Archtics system will be an added benefit, with some background in TicketMaster Classic also being helpful.

    Summary of Duties:

    • Processing season ticket, individual ticket and group orders on a daily basis
    • Run ticket reports as needed to assist sales department in daily sales calls
    • Provide quality customer service when dealing with customer fan base via phone, e-mail or written correspondence
    • Assist Customer Service department in all mailings of ticket packages, merchandise items, and materials related to ticket sales
    • Perform occasional banking/financial tasks as needed to assist in daily operations
    • Work on game days in the stadium box office assisting customer service and box office personnel
    • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned

    Ideal Candidate: Student specializing in Sports Management or related field. Some related experience in ticketed events - sports or otherwise, is helpful but not required; Candidate must be highly motivated, detail oriented, and have the ability to multi-task. Ability to relate to customers in all methods of contact (mail, phone, e-mail, in person) Candidate should possess:

    • Knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word
    • Some familiarity with TicketMaster ticketing software (Archtics and Classic)

    Community Relations Intern

    The Community Relations intern will assist D.C. United's Community Relations department with various community outreach initiatives. Regular intern duties may include answering player and team fan mail, facilitating the team's in-kind donation practice and coordinating various community programs, including the United Drives intiative, the Good Sport program, Sporting Geography and United Builds. Regular day-of-game duties include managing the various booths associated with the above listed community programs and other activities. In addition, Community Relations interns will have the chance to assist with D.C. United's non-profit arm, United for D.C., and its various fundraisers and initiatives. Duties may include facilitating fundraising activities such as events and auctions or coordinating the charity's various programs, including Kicks for Kids, United Reads and United Soccer Club. A candidate for this internship should be a self-starter, an independent worker, trustworthy and organized with strong written and verbal communication skills.

The candidate should possess a strong business concentration with an added interest in marketing.     D.C. United Communications Interns will assist with all aspects of the department's activities and responsibilities. Interns may assist with:

    • Production of the team's 200+ page media guide
    • Writing articles for the website and other team publications
    • Organization of team and player photos
    • Statistical analysis and record keeping

    Graphic Design Intern

    Intern works with Senior Designer to produce design solutions to specified creative problems. Also works with marketing and communication staff to conceptualize and develop design/communication materials. Requires ability to adapt to established design 'look and feel' of D.C. United while achieving project goals with creativity and flair. Position reports to the Senior Designer.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Equipment Manager Intern

    We are looking for an individual interested in the behind-the-scenes aspects, specifically equipment management, of a professional soccer team. This person will report to the Head Equipment Manager and work on a daily basis with the Assistant Equipment Manager. Will also have daily interaction with players, coaches, and other members of the technical staff.

    Primary responsibilities include field and locker room setup, preparation, and breakdown. Laundering of training gear on a daily basis and game gear when applicable. Will also gain valuable experience with vital tasks such as inventory control, equipment organization, packing equipment for road trips, and distribution of equipment to players and coaches.

    As with most professional sports jobs, there is no set schedule, availability could be necessary for both days/nights and weekdays/weekends.

    Team Administration

    Organize and catalog inventory of match DVD's; continue the process of transferring VHS to DVD. Maintain throughout the year on-going collection of all MLS matches, MNT matches, and youth competitions, foreign matches, and college matches at all levels involving the USA or any DCU players and any other matches requested. Create an organized and reliable labeling system.

    Receive delegated tasks at any time involving team travel, new player and trial players lodging and transportation, (note: intern must have a car and a working knowledge of the DC area. - we should plan to reimburse for mileage) player call-up.     1. A comprehensive summer soccer camp business - responsibilities include: handle all incoming phone calls to answer questions; maintain a database of campers; process checks for payment of camp fee; prepare all logistics for weekly camps including camp equipment, camper t-shirts, camper balls, camper tickets;
    2. DC United's youth teams - coordinate all information between the Director of Youth Development and the team managers; coordinate all information between the youth teams and DC United public relations; assist with the registration and logistics of each team

    Athletic Training Intern

    Certified ATC's, recent college graduates, or students entering their senior year of an accredited athletic training program. CSCS a plus! All accepted interns are on a 2-week trial period to assure compatibility to DC United's team and technical staff.

    Interns will learn mostly through practical experience. Responsibilities include:

    Executive Assistant Intern

    D.C. United is seeking an Executive Assistant Intern to provide administrative support in the Office of the President. Interns will report directly to the Executive Assistant for all duties and must maintain discreet handling of all internal business affairs.

    Responsibilities:

    • Email/Phone management - assist with e-mail and phone calls as needed and follow-up accordingly
    • Records management - help maintain and update files for the President
    • Logistical support - help coordinate administrative and logistical aspects of travel, meetings, and day-of-game events for the President
    • Administrative support - assist with a variety of duties such as the managing the daily calendar of events and special projects as needed

    Qualifications:

    • Executive Assistant experience is a plus.
    • Proficiency in MS Office - Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

    D.C. United is looking for an energetic and organized accounting and finance intern for the Summer and Fall of 2008. The intern will work directly with the staff accountant and Chief Financial Officer in the daily processes of the Finance department.

    Summary of Duties:
    • Processing Accounts Payable-all phases (coding, entering/processing and filing)
    • Processing and tracking of Accounts Receivable
    • Development of a vendor filing system
    • Support the staff accountant on monthly closings (e.g. bank reconciliations)
    • Assist in the reconciliation of ticket revenues and other game day activities
    Ideal Candidate: Junior, Senior or Graduate student majoring in accounting/finance or a related field. Candidate must be a self-starter, highly organized, and have the ability to work under time constraints. Candidate should possess:
