Professional
2004: Earnie Stewart played a big part in the success of D.C. United's midfield in the early part of the 2004 season, as he provided veteran leadership to some of United's younger players. His dedication to both club and country was proven when he left a United States Mens National Team training camp to play for an injury-depleted Black-and-Red side in a mid-season tilt against Colorado on June 12th before catching a red-eye to Columbus, OH on June 13th, where he came on as a late substitute in the USMNT's match against Grenada. Stewart has also been a versatile late-season substitute, coming off the bench as a forward to spark the United attack.2003: This 14-year veteran of the U.S. MNT was acquired in January via an MLS player allocation. He has been used in a plethora of positions this season, helping United both up front and in the midfield. He opened his MLS scoring account on 9/13, burying the opening goal against San Jose in a game United would win 2-1. That result put the team above the .500 mark for the first time all season at 9-8-6. Two weeks later on 9/25, Stewart helped seal a victory versus the division-rival Metrostars, delivering a game-winning assist to strike partner Ronald Cerritos in the 67th minute.
The dual Dutch-American citizen started his professional career in Holland at the age of 17 and split his 14 professional seasons between three sides, developing from a promising attacker in the second division to a reliable scorer on a perennial contender for the Dutch Honor Division title. Stewart amassed 111 goals during his fourteen seasons in Holland's first and second divisions, making him the highest scoring international-based player ever from the United States. 1996-2002: Stewart spent six-and-a-half seasons with NAC Breda of the Dutch Honor Division, scoring 46 total goals for NAC, including his 100th professional tally during the 2000-01 season. He notched three goals in 14 appearances during the 1999-2000 season, helping NAC to the Dutch Honor Division championship. Stewart's first campaign in Breda was an impressive one, as the Honor Division rookie totaled nine goals in 28 appearances for NAC.
1990-1996: Stewart established himself as a legitimate scorer during six seasons with Willem II. He tallied 49 goals in 170 overall matches for the second division side. In his first season with Willem II, Stewart finished the campaign with 17 goals, placing him third on the season scoring chart. Stewart reached double-digits once again in the 1994-95 season, totaling 10 markers.
1988-1990: Stewart began his professional career at the age of 17 when he signed on with V.V. Venlo of the Dutch second division. He spent two years at V.V. Venlo, scoring 15 goals in 62 games with the club. Stewart had a breakthrough season in the 1989-1990, when he scored 12 goals in 35 contests.
International
2004: At the age of 35, Stewart became only the eighth player to earn 100 caps for the U.S. MNT when he came on as a 63rd minute substitute in the MNT's 3-2 win in Grenada on June 20th. He commemorated the accomplishment by assisting DaMarcus Beasley on the decisive goal, his 10th assist for the National Team all-time.2003: Stewart proved his longetivity in 2003, making 13 appearances - all consecutive - on the year, concluding with the 2003 Gold Cup third place match. He scored two goals on the year including "one of the highest quality strikes in U.S. Soccer history," a right-footed volley into the upper right corner of the net against Costa Rica.
2002: In his thirteenth season in the Red, White and Blue kit, Stewart amassed some individual milestones while helping the U.S. Men's National Team to a surprising run to the World Cup quarterfinals. Stewart played in four of the five U.S. MNT matches during Korea/Japan 2002, making him one of only five U.S. players to see time on the pitch in three World Cups. Stewart's appearances also made him the career leader for the U.S. in World Cup finals appearances (11) and minutes played (695).
2001: Stewart was a constant for the U.S. side that qualified for Korea/Japan 2002. The dependable Stewart played every minute of the U.S. MNT's ten CONCACAF region qualifying contests during the year, and was named captain of the squad by head coach Bruce Arena for half of those matches. Stewart's leadership and team-high five goals helped earn him the 2001 Chevrolet Male Athlete of the Year award from U.S. Soccer.
2000: Club commitments kept Stewart in Holland for many of the U.S. MNT's contests, but he still managed to finish second on the team in scoring with a career-high 12 points (4 goals, 4 assists) in only eight appearances. 1998: Stewart represented the U.S.A. in his second World Cup finals, making two starts and appearing as a sub once during the side's three-game stay in France '98.
1997: In less than 23 hours, Stewart played in two 90-minute games on two different continents. He scored the game-winning goal (1-0) in the 89th minute for his club, NAC Breda, over MVV (9/8) just hours after arriving from Portland, OR, site of his 90-minute appearance in the USA's 1-0 World Cup qualifying victory over Costa Rica on 9/7.
1996: Stewart went the full 90 minutes in five of six World Cup qualifying matches, recording one assist.
1995: As a regular starter, total of nine games, Stewart participated on the U.S. team that won the '95 U.S. Cup and advanced to the semifinals of the Copa America.
1994: Stewart played 327 minutes and started all four games during the '94 World Cup in the United States. Stewart's game-winner in a 2-1 triumph over Colombia in group play gave the U.S. its first victory in the World Cup finals in 44 years.
1993: Stewart scored his first international goal against Germany in the U.S. Cup on 6/13. Played in all three U.S. Cup matches as a substitute.
1992: Stewart played in all three matches for the USA in its run to the U.S. Cup championship.
