Mike Petke played his first full season with the Rapids in 2006. Petke helped to shut down opposing offenses. Petke often was in the mix on offensive corner kicks attempting to get his first goal as a member of the Rapids. During the 2006 season Petke would start in all 26 games he appeared posting 2256 minutes on the field. He would also play in two of the three playoff games of the Rapids 2006 season. In his brilliant nine year career, Petke has been one the premier defenders in the league. The 29-year-old has been named an MLS All-Star twice in his career.

At Southern Connecticut StateUniversity, Petke was awarded All-New England Collegiate Conference First Team honors in 1998… He totaled two goals and four assists in 22 starts as a tri-captain of the team…In 1997 Petke was named NECC Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-NECC and was a consensus NSCAA/Umbro First Team All- America selection…In 1995 Petke led SCSU to the NCAA Division II national championship and was named Conference Rookie of the Year.
