Letter from Chicago Fire owner Andrew Hauptman to fans
Like you, I'm heartbroken over the Fire's loss to Real Salt Lake on Saturday. But like you, I'm also extremely proud of our club. I truly believe the Fire's passion and love for the game is unmatched in Major League Soccer. Our team played with a lot of heart and grit this season, culminating in the Fire hosting the first Eastern Conference Championship final to be played at TOYOTA PARK.
I also believe that our fans are truly remarkable in their passion and spirit. Time and time again, Fire fans demonstrate how special and invaluable they are to the team, as well as to the entire Chicago community. You really brought TOYOTA PARK to life during the playoffs and that was shown with our unprecedented two playoff sell-outs -- the largest crowds yet at our stadium. Our players fed off that energy - I fed off that energy. It was amazing and I appreciate you putting your faith and heart in this team. You continue to inspire us each and every day as we strive to embrace the club's ongoing commitment to tradition, honor and passion in everything we do.
Looking ahead, I can share without hesitation that we remain as focused as ever on winning an MLS Cup championship. While our players will now get some well-deserved time off, the rest of the Fire organization is already working tirelessly to prepare for 2010.
I'm confident that next season will prove to be one of the Fire's best yet -- both on and off the pitch.
Thank you again for your support and I look forward to seeing you Opening Night on April 10, 2010 when we kick off the home portion of the 2010 schedule against the San Jose Earthquakes. Go Fire!
