"We were excited to bring Sasha in last season, and he made an impact right away," said Chivas USA Head Coach Preki. "We're all looking forward to having him back on the field and helping us continue our success in 2009."
Victorine, a UCLA graduate and Southern California native, is currently recovering from microfracture surgery and a lateral meniscectomy on his left knee, which took place on Nov. 12, 2008 and is expected to keep him sidelined until mid-May. The midfielder joined Chivas USA from the Kansas City Wizards in a deadline-day trade on Sept. 15, 2008, and in five games with the Red-and-White (four starts), Victorine recorded two goals and an assist, logging 340 minutes.
Drafted in 2000 by the LA Galaxy as a first-round pick out of UCLA, where he won the Hermann Trophy in his senior year (1999), Victorine spent five seasons with the Galaxy before a draft-day transaction in 2005 sent him to Kansas City. In his MLS career, the Corona, Calif. native has played a total of 232 matches (209 starts), with 32 goals and 40 assists. At the international level, Victorine has 4 caps and 1 goal for the full U.S. National Team, and also represented the U.S. Olympic Team at the Sydney Games in 2000, making three appearances.
