FRISCO, TX -- Kyle Brown, Stuart Holden and Chris Wondolowski each scored to assure the Houston Dynamo a 3-0 victory over FC Dallas on Wednesday morning in a Reserve Division game played on the adidas Field at Pizza Hut Park.
Dallas had several chances in the opening moments, including an Abe Thompson header in the sixth minute, which forced Houston goalkeeper Tony Caig to make a diving save. Michael Dello-Russo sent a cross into the box from the right side which found Thompson, who rose above the Houston defense and redirected it toward goal. Caig dove to his left and got a hand on it to keep the ball out of the back of the net.
Houston took advantage of Dallas' missed opportunities in the 26th minute when Kyle Brown broke through. Defender Stephen Wondolowski sent a long ball up the right side to Brown. The forward fended off FCD's Brek Shea while cutting into the penalty box and then calmly slotted it past goalkeeper Ray Burse from 8 yards out.
The Dynamo added to the lead thirteen minutes later when Stuart Holden connected on a diving header from the top of the six yard box, off a long throw-in from Geoff Cameron. Dallas failed to clear Cameron's throw after it bounced in the area, allowing Holden to give Houston a 2-0 advantage at the break.
In the second half, Dallas held the majority of the possession and created numerous scoring opportunities, forcing Houston to spend much of the final 45 minutes in their own end.
At the 71st-minute mark, second-half substitute Eric Avila brought down a missed clearance at the top of the penalty area and beat two Houston defenders as he dribbled through the box. Just before reaching the endline, Avila chipped the ball to Dominic Oduro at the far post, whose header sailed just over the crossbar.
With Dallas pushing numbers into the attack down the stretch, Chris Wondolowski managed to put the game out of reach with a counterattack goal in the 84th minute.
Cameron broke free down the right flank and after cutting inside, the midfielder sent a ball to Ashe near the edge of the penalty box on the left. Ashe slid the ball back toward the middle, which Wondolowski ran onto and one-timed over the outstretched hands of onrushing 'keeper Josh Lambo.
Houston improves to 6-1-1 (19 pts.) in Reserve Division play and will return home to face the San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday, Sept. 21. After falling to 2-3-2 (8 pts.) on the season, FC Dallas will next face the Colorado Rapids on Friday, Sept. 5 at Pizza Hut Park.
