Quakes to participate in Light The Night Walk
Event will raise funds for cancer research
"We are proud to partner with Club Quake and Soccer Silicon Valley to support such a worthy cause," said Earthquakes Executive Vice President David Alioto. "We encourage Earthquakes fans to join us at the event that will raise crucial funds in the fight against leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma."
The Earthquakes will also host The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday, Aug. 30 when the Quakes take on the Kansas City Wizards. A cancer survivor will perform the honorary First Kick prior to the match. Throughout the night, the Earthquakes will also host a silent auction for game-worn jerseys from Earthquakes players, as well as prominent players from around the league. Proceeds from the auction will benefit both LLS and the San Jose Earthquakes Community Fund. Fans will be able to sign up for the Light The Night Walk at the LLS booth in the pregame vendor area.
"This event fits right in with our effort as a fan-based non-profit to give back to the community through the collaboration of San Jose Earthquakes fans with their favorite club," said SSVCF president Don Gagliardi. "So we're really excited to be involved."
"Club Quake is proud to once again be walking the Light The Night Walk with the San Jose Earthquakes and Soccer Silicon Valley Community Foundation," said Club Quake President Michelle Selincourt. "Involvement in our community is very important to us and the Earthquakes front office has made it possible for this combined effort. We welcome the opportunity of raising funds for LLS and hope that all Earthquake fans will join our team and walk with us."
On Oct. 4, the Light The Night Walk festivities at Palo Alto High School will begin at 5 p.m. PT, with the walk starting at 7 p.m. Participants walk carrying illuminated balloons to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. All funds raised through the Light The Night Walk support LLS's mission to cure leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and myeloma, and improve the quality of life for patients and their families. Children, adults and seniors are all encouraged to participate in the event. Fans that sign up for the Earthquakes Team will receive a commemorative t-shirt.
People interested in walking with the San Jose Earthquakes at Light The Night can register on-line at the Earthquakes team page.
