QUEVEDO, Ecuador - The MetroStars battled to a 3-3 draw with Deportivo Quevedo in Quevedo, Ecuador this afternoon in their second preseason match of the 2005 MetroStars Ecuador Pre-Season Trip presented by Continental Airlines. The MetroStars are now 1-0-1 during the Ecuador portion of their pre-season.

Deportivo Quevedo got things started early, when Oswaldo Cohener collected a long ball in the box from Javier Molina, and beat MetroStars goalkeeper Zach Wells to his upper right side. The goal came in just the seventh minute and gave the home side a 1-0 lead.

The "Red and Black" didn't take long to answer however, as just four minutes later, trialist Lopez Ederson, broke loose one-on-one with Quevedo goalkeeper Pico Robin. Ederson, made a quick move to his right side, and calmly slid the ball into the goal, to knot the game at 1-1.

The flurry of first half action continued in the 23rd minute, when another trialist, Frernando Silva, gave the Metros a 2-1 lead with a diving header. The play was set up when "Red and Black" veterans Chris Leitch and Gilberto strung together a nice sequence of passes along the right sideline. Leitch then ended up with the ball in the corner, and played a nice cross into the box, which Silva was able to connect with.

The contest was then evened early in the second half when Deportivo Quevedo midfielder Javier Molina fired a low rocket that beat MetroStars second half goalkeeper Henry Ring. Julio Baldivieso delivered a pass to Molina at the top of the box, and the forward blasted a low ball through a crowd of players that beat Ring to his left side, evening the score at 2-2 in the 59th minute.

It took the Metros just two minutes to retake the lead, when for the third time of the day a trialist tallied a goal for the "Red and Black." Ramon Bailey found himself in the left corner with the ball and one Quevedo defender to beat. Bailey made a sharp move to his right, and played a perfect cross through the box that found Pascal Nouma with just Robin to beat inside the six-yard box. Pascal smoothly controlled the ball, and then skillfully chipped it over the diving 'keeper to give the Metros the 3-2 lead in the 61st minute.

The game was knotted again in the 68th minute, when Cohenen tallied his second score of the contest, this time coming on a PK. Metros defender Jeff Parke was whistled for taking down Quevedo forward Cristian Valencia in the box, and the home team was awarded the penalty. Cohenen went to Ring's lower left, and the "Red and Black" 'keeper got a hand on it, but was not able to deflect it away, again evening the score for good at 3-3.

The MetroStars next match of the 2005 MetroStars Ecuador Pre-Season Trip presented by Continental Airlines is slated for Tuesday when they will play Barcelona SC in Guayaquil at 8:00 p.m. ET.
