Soaring approximately 550 feet above the ground (168 meters), the design also features the official MLS Cup 2009 logo, and logos of the two participating teams.
"We are honored to partner with the Space Needle to commemorate MLS Cup in this unique and historic way," said MLS Commissioner Don Garber. "The success of Seattle Sounders FC this season will forever be known as one of the key moments in the history of soccer in America. The entire region has opened its arms to welcome Major League Soccer's championship game and we look forward to a memorable atmosphere on Sunday at Qwest Field."
Seattle-based Omega Graphics & Signs, LLC spearheaded the on-site work on the project by utilizing a combination of large digital prints for the various logos, and paint for the ball's image. As a proud sponsor of Major League Soccer and a leader in the paint industry, Glidden™ paints - along with its parent company, AkzoNobel - were the perfect fit for the project, supplying the range of high performance coatings for the production. Glidden paints has been a corporate partner of Major League Soccer since 2005.
