We wrap up the MLSnet.com Power Rankings for the 2009 season this week, and, as is only appropriate, the team that spent the most time atop the rankings finished at the top.

Of interest, however, is the one first-place vote the LA Galaxy took away from Columbus this week. Is it merely a nod to a remarkable season in Los Angeles, or perhaps a sign of things to come in the MLS Cup Playoffs? We'll have to tune in beginning on Thursday night to know for sure.

Here's a look at the latest MLSnet.com Power Rankings. As always, these rankings do not reflect any official stance of Major League Soccer.

Note: Power Ranking points are compiled from ballots submitted by a panel of MLS experts. First-place votes are in parentheses.

Breakdown

11 A second consecutive Supporters' Shield is certainly a welcome prize in Columbus, but along with that prize comes a Conference Semifinal opening leg at Rio Tinto Stadium, unquestionably one of MLS's toughest road venues.
Last: Lost to NE, 1-0. Next: Sat. at RSL.

22 A convincing win over what had been a hot San Jose side gave the Galaxy the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, as well as a nice segue into what's sure to be one of the most heated playoff matchups in league history.
Last: Beat SJ, 2-0. Next: Sun. at CHV.
85 (1)
33 Dominic Kinnear could not have been too pleased to see a 3-0 lead nearly disappear at The Home Depot Center, but after just one win in seven prior league games, the victory was a welcome sight for Houston.
Last: Beat CHV, 3-2. Next: Thurs. at SEA.
78
45 After topping what had been the league's hottest team for their third straight win, there's no question that Sounders FC are on a roll. Qwest Field will be rocking for the first MLS Cup Playoff game in club history.
Last: Beat DAL, 2-1. Next: Thurs. vs. HOU.
69
56 The Fire's win over Chivas snapped a six-match unbeaten streak and gives the club needed confidence heading into the postseason and a 2008 Eastern Conference Semifinal rematch against rival New England.
Last: Beat CHV, 1-0. Next: Sat. at NE.
63
64 A pair of losses to fellow playoff teams certainly were not what Preki was looking for to close the regular season, but he had to be encouraged by the fight his club showed in the second half against the Dynamo.
Last: Lost at CHV, 1-0; Lost to HOU, 3-2. Next: Sun. vs. LA.
60
710 Dream the impossible dream. Facing long odds to reach the playoffs -- only RSL had a tougher road of teams alive entering the final weekend -- the Revs got the breaks they needed, plus an eye-opening win in Columbus.
Last: Won at CLB, 1-0. Next: Sat. vs. CHI.
53
812 RSL pulled off the shocker of the season by routing Colorado and leapfrogging four teams in the season's final weekend to reach the postseason. Robbie Findley's double was a long overdue and much-needed jolt.
Last: Beat COL, 3-0. Next: Sat. vs. CLB.
50
97 It was almost tragic to see FC Dallas' playoff run fall short after their inspired play in the second half of the season. But, with a young nucleus in place, FCD could jump into the Western Conference elite in 2010.
Last: Lost at SEA, 2-1. Next: N/A.
47
1011 The final week of the season could not have been much more deflating for D.C. United, as lost second-half leads ultimately kept them out of both the CONCACAF Champions League knockout stage and the MLS Cup Playoffs.
Last: Tied at KC, 2-2. Next: N/A.
34
119 The Rapids have no one to blame for their failure to reach the postseason but themselves. Blessed with a cushion in the standings and a relatively easy schedule, they went winless in their final seven matches.
Last: Lost at RSL, 3-0. Next: N/A.
27
118 The emotions in the building were certainly against TFC on Saturday night, and a slick field didn't help the Reds' cause, but they came out flat in New York, and thus will watch the MLS Cup Playoffs from home.
Last: Lost at NY, 5-0. Next: N/A.
27
1313 The emergence of Ryan Johnson as a viable scoring threat will go down as the best thing to come out of this season for the Earthquakes. The 25-year-old forward could be poised for even bigger things in 2010.
Last: Lost at LA, 2-0. Next: N/A.
16
1414 The Wizards showed a lot of promise to build on down the season's final stretch. Before they can think about 2010, however, Peter Vermes must first make a decision on whether or not he will stay on as head coach.
Last: Tied with DC, 2-2. Next: N/A.
15
1515 The Red Bulls closed Giants Stadium with a bang, and gave Albert Celades a memorable send-off. Now, it's off to Red Bull Arena, where, surely after several offseason changes, a new chapter in their history will be written.
Last: Beat TOR, 5-0. Next: N/A.
