D.C. United controlled the offensive tempo and pressured FC Dallas from the onset only to find themselves trailing 1-0 at home on a 28th minute header from FC Dallas midfielder Andre Rocha. Already looking sharp, Moreno took his game up another notch in the second half. In the 56th minute Moreno controlled a long pass out of the back from Bryan Namoff. From the top of the penalty area, he struck a low drive that deflected off the fingertips of FC Dallas goalkeeper Ray Burse and into the back of the net.
Moreno and his teammates continued to press the FC Dallas defense and were rewarded 10 minutes later. In the 66th minute Christian Gomez charged through the midfield with the ball at his feet and slid a perfectly-weighted pass through the middle of the Dallas defense. Moreno ran onto the ball, took a touch and cleverly chipped the ball over Burse, who rushed out to try and make the save.
Moreno's brace on Saturday took his record total to 124 goals, 10 more than the League's second all-time leading Ante Razov (Chivas USA). Moreno, an MLS Original, has scored all but two of his 124 goals in the Black-and-Red of D.C. United. This is Moreno's seventh MLS Player of the Week award and first since Week 9 in 2006 when he scored two goals in a 3-1 road victory over the Kansas City Wizards.
Moreno, 35, hails from Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia and is one of four remaining MLS Originals, having played at least one minute in every season in League history. Moreno is the only player in MLS history with 100 goals and 100 assists. He has appeared in 299 league matches and is a four-time MLS Cup Champion. Moreno also has 74 career appearances for the Bolivian national team.
The Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected each week of the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from The North American Soccer Reporters (NASR).
