MLS teams build rosters with Supplemental Draft

51 Players selected in MLS Supplemental Draft to fight for spots as preseason camps begin this weekend

Major League Soccer Communications
NEW YORK -- With the start of the 2008 MLS regular season just two months away, teams are busy strengthening their rosters heading into training camp. All 14 teams took another step towards completing their rosters with selections in the 2008 MLS Supplemental Draft, which concluded Thursday afternoon.

A total of 51 players were selected in the four-round draft, which was held via teleconference from the League headquarters. All players who met draft eligibility requirements that were not selected in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft - which was held on Friday, Jan. 18 - and additional players nominated by teams were eligible for selection in the Supplemental Draft. The original order of the four-round MLS Supplemental Draft is determined from the reverse order of finish following the 2007 season.

This Saturday, Jan. 26, Major League Soccer clubs are permitted to begin preseason training. Not all teams will take the field on that day, but during the next two months, each team's 2008 roster will begin take shape. First Kick, which is the official moniker for the first weekend of the MLS regular season, is March 29 and 30, but several clubs will play in significant tournaments prior to First Kick. By March 3 all 14 teams will have to be roster and salary budget compliant, meaning they must be at or under the 28-player roster maximum and must fall under the League's salary cap requirement.

The complete order of the picks can be found below, and will appear on the web site at the following link: http://web.mlsnet.com/mls/events/scoreboard/supplementaldraft/2008/search.jsp
