Adidas team ties Real Reserves
Draw in Spanish tour shows Generation Adidas strength
Against Real's full reserve team that plays in the Spanish second division, Generation adidas dominated possession in the first half. Kei Kamara (San Jose Earthquakes) and Chad Barrett (Chicago Fire) each had good scoring chances in the early going, while goalkeeper Brad Guzan (Chivas USA) was not threatened at all, not called upon to make a single save.
Kamara and Willie Sims (New England Revolution) both caused the Real Madrid defense difficulties over the opening 45 minutes, while Hunter Freeman (New York Red Bulls) and Jed Zayner (Columbus Crew) effectively marshalled the Generation adidas back line.
The second half was an even affair with each team getting good chances, but neither club was able to find the back of the net.
Following the match, MLS director of player programs Alfonso Mondelo said the Real Madrid coaches and scouts on hand were impressed with the quality of play by the Generation adidas team.
The team wraps up its trip over the weekend, after they take in the La Liga match on Saturday night between Real Madrid vs. Racing Santander at Estadio Santiago Bernabeu. Six players in the group -- Chris Seitz (Real Salt Lake), Nathan Sturgis (Real Salt Lake), Tim Ward (Columbus Crew), Patrick Ianni (Houston Dynamo), Marvell Wynne (Toronto FC) and Freeman will leave Spain on Friday to join up with the U.S. U-23 national team as it begins preparations for its two-game trip to China in December.
