NEW YORK -- Recently hired head coach Frank Yallop will have to make a lot of choices when molding the San Jose Earthquakes, Major League Soccer's 14th team. That all begins as the Earthquakes are stocked with their first 10 players when MLS holds the 2007 Expansion Draft on Wednesday, Nov. 21 at 1 p.m. ET.

The 10-round draft will allow San Jose to claim only one player from one MLS team in each round leaving room for three teams to remain untouched by San Jose selections. Each team was allowed to protect 11 players between their Senior and Developmental Rosters. If the player's contract expires at the end of 2007, he was still considered part of the team's Senior Roster and among the 11 possible players to protect.

Any Project 40/Generation adidas players who have not graduated at the end of the 2007 season will also be automatically protected by the teams and not available for the draft. However, if San Jose selects a developmental player, he must be added to the club's Senior Roster as of the roster compliance date.

In addition, each team cannot make more than one Senior International player available. A player is considered a Senior International if he qualifies as such no earlier than 2008. For draft purposes in the case of Toronto FC, any non-domestic U.S. player or non-domestic Canadian player will count as an international player. Also, any 2007 Youth International who becomes a Senior International in 2008 will be considered as senior for the draft.

For the current teams, if a player is protected, the current club is not obligated to exercise the player's option and may renegotiate a new budget number for the player as in previous years. A designated player does not have to be protected unless the player has a no-trade clause in his contract in which case the player must be protected.

As well, San Jose has the right to renegotiate a drafted player's salary, for more or less money, without having to place such player on waivers or giving his previous team a right of first refusal. San Jose also reserves priority on the opening day of the signing period with respect to USL players playing professionally in the USL First or Second Division.

At the conclusion of the Expansion Draft, results will be posted on MLSnet.com. Teams may resume trading afterwards.

Listed below are the protected players submitted to the league by the 13 MLS teams.
