MLS unveils Guaranteed Seat Licenses
License gives holder priority for MLS Cup, All-Star tickets; Only 250 available in 2006
Major League Soccer announced Tuesday that a limited number of Guaranteed Seat Licenses will be available for purchase by MLS fans for $500 per seat, with the GSLs entitling each holder to the first opportunity to buy tickets to the league's two premier events each year, the MLS All-Star Game and MLS Cup.
Only 250 GSLs are being made available this season and fans can purchase them on the league's official Web site, www.MLSnet.com. The first 250 GSL holders will be considered "Founding Members," and the number and price of GSLs made available in future seasons will be reviewed at the conclusion of the 2006 MLS season.
GSL holders will be notified about one month before each premier event (All-Star Game or MLS Cup) for the duration of his or her lifetime and will be given a window of at least five days to purchase the best available seats at the normal public ticket prices established for each event. The purchase window for the GSL Founding Members for the 2006 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game is currently scheduled for June 26-July 5.
The 2006 MLS All-Star Game promises to be one of the most exciting in the league's history, as back-to-back English Premier League champions Chelsea FC will visit the brand new Bridgeview Stadium, home of the Chicago Fire, on Aug. 5. The 20,000-seat stadium is the fourth soccer-specific stadium in the league, following Columbus Crew Stadium, The Home Depot Center outside of Los Angeles -- which houses both the L.A. Galaxy and Chivas USA -- and Pizza Hut Park in Frisco, Texas.
MLS Cup 2006 is scheduled to make an encore appearance at Pizza Hut Park this season. Last year's championship match between the Los Angeles Galaxy and New England Revolution was a sellout, with 21,193 fans in attendance. The 2005 Sierra Mist MLS All-Star Game was also a packed house, as 23,813 fans were on hand at Columbus Crew Stadium to see the MLS All-Stars defeat English Premier League side Fulham FC.
