Open Cup games begin for MLS clubs

The 2008 Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup began play for MLS clubs on April 30 as Real Salt Lake bested visiting San Jose in a play-in match. Six of MLS's premier teams -- the Houston Dynamo, New England Revolution, D.C. United, Chivas USA, FC Dallas, and the New York Red Bulls -- will join two MLS play-in winners. RSL now goes on to face Columbus on May 27, the same night the LA Galaxy play the Rapids in another play-in game.

MLS clubs fall in semifinals of Cup

D.C. United and the Houston Dynamo are two of MLS's powerhouses, but each fell prey to international clubs in the semifinals of the CONCACAF Champions Cup in April. Houston couldn't stop Costa Rica's Deportivo Saprissa, while D.C. fell to Mexican side Pachuca.
