New England Revolution transactions: June 20, 2007
Joe Franchino suffered season-ending injury and Daniel Hernandez waived by club
Franchino has a longitudinal tear the peroneal tendon in his right ankle, and will undergo reconstructive surgery on July 2. George Theodore, M.D., will perform the surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital. Franchino's expected recovery and rehabilitation period is six months.
Franchino appeared in three games this season for a total of 57 minutes. He entered the 2007 tied with teammate Jay Heaps for the Revolution club record for career starts (155).
The Revolution also announced that the club had waived midfielder Daniel Hernandez. Hernandez spent parts of five seasons (2002-03, 2005-07) with the Revolution, but had yet to appear in a game this season. He made a total of 42 regular-season appearances with the Revs, scoring three goals and adding three assists.
The Revolution (5-2-3, 19 pts.) is currently third in the MLS Eastern Conference, two points behind leader New York. The Revs close a four-game homestand at Gillette Stadium on Saturday, June 23, when they host league newcomer Toronto FC at 7:30 p.m. TV38 will televise the game live, while the WEEI Radio Network will broadcast the game on the radio.
